Tom\u00e1\u0161 Zme\u0161kal (1966) studied English and Literature in London where he lived in exile. His debut novel In 2008 Milostn\u00fd dopis kl\u00ednov\u00fdm p\u00edsmem<\/em> (Love Letter in Cuneiform Script) was nothing less than a sensation. According to critics and readers he is a writer in the league of famous colleagues like J\u00e1chym Topol and Bohumil Hrabal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His second novel \u017divotopis \u010dernob\u00edl\u00e9ho jehn\u011bte<\/em> (Biography of a Black and White Lamb) from 2009 can be characterized as: Black Lives Matter behind the Iron Curtain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2013 he published the long-awaited non-ficton novel Sokrates na rovn\u00edku<\/em> (Socrates at the Equator) about the search of his father in the Congo.

Zme\u0161kal has been honoured with the Josef \u0160kvoreck\u00fd Award and the EU Prize for Literature, and his work has been tarnslated in over a dozen languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
