Hana Andronikova

About the author

When Hana Andronikova (1967-2011) made her debut in 2001 as an author, she was immediately hailed as one of the new stars of Czech literature. It is therefore no surprise that her book Zvuk slunečních hodin (The Sound of the Sundial) became an instant bestseller. In 2001 her novel was awarded with the Book Club Prize and a year later with the prestigious Magnesia Litera Prize.

After a volume of short stories Srdce na udice (Heart on a Hook) in 2002, Andronikova did not publish any new material for a long period of time. In 2010 she released her new novel Nebe nemá dno (Heaven Has No Floor), a strong and very personal book.

Very unfortunately Hana Andronikova died in 2011. A tremendous loss for her family and close relatives, not to mention a great loss for literature as well. Hana Andronikova has proven with her books that she belongs to the very best that Czech literature has to offer.

Her work has been published in the United States (Plamen Press), Hungary (Ulpius Ház), Belarus (Logvinov) and Bulgaria (SemaRSh).
