“I recently read a book by an author I didn’t know until now, her name is Klára Vlasáková, the book is called ‘Cracks’, and actually after a long time it was something that excited me.”
— Jáchym Topol

Klára Vlasáková (1990) is a screenwriter and journalist who writes screenplays for film, comics as well as radio plays. She works regularly with several media organizations – Czech Television, Czech Radio and the cultural section of the newspaper Právo.
She made her debut in 2021 with the novel Praskliny (Cracks), which for instance sparked great enthusiasm amid translators of Czech literature. Two years later in 2023, she published her second novel Těla (Bodies), which was voted Book of the Year in a poll among leading figures from the Czech literary world.
The narration/stories in her books are propelled by the author’s precise and excellent use of language, on full display, for example, in the expression of people’s feelings, or the clever and credible way in which she presents the clichés of corporate jargon and cults. Vlasáková has written what is not your average book, but a unique and supremely intriguing novels.
Vlasaková is rightly considered one of the greatest talents in Czech literature.
