“Bianca Bellová is recognized as one of the most successful and widely read contemporary Czech writers.”
— Radio Bulgaria

Bianca Bellová (1970) achieved her international breakthrough with the book Jezero (The Lake), which was honored with the ERBD Prize (awarded to the year’s best work of literary fiction translated into English). In her work Bellová has a keen eye for the interactions between people and she is not shy of raising unsettling questions and to touch on the grand themes of our times. Compared with a great narrative talent, her books are a joy to read and will entice any reader.
After studying at the University of Economics she worked as a translator and interpreter of English. Following a trip across India, she wrote the unpublished novel Green Curry. She struggled to find a publisher for her next book Sentimentální román (A Sentimental Novel), but eventually succeeded. And the rest is history, culminating in the great success of her multi-award-winning book The Lake.
Her work has been translated into more than twenty languages. Bellová has earned her place more than ever in the international literary world.
